  Fred Braucher, Ph.D., CBT

As a therapist, I aim to help people to get in touch with their living bodies in order to gain a deeper sense of who they are and what they genuinely value. This stems from a conviction that the deepest meanings in life come about through communion with other persons, with the life in the world around us, and with the Creator or all (however understood). Sadly, our culture has made a "religion" of competition, wherein the body is treated as a machine with more or less attractive packaging to be exploited rather than as the foundation of our identity, aliveness and joy. As a result, we become separated from our own bodies and from other persons in many ways. Many of us cannot get it together again without help.

Encountering the work of Wilhem Reich in 1945, I was attracted to his critique of Freud's later theories and felt that his functionalism offered unique insight into my experience of myself. However, it was only when I met Alexander Lowen in 1969 that I gained a living connection to bioenergetics. For seven years, I traveled to the Detroit ara to see the bioenergetic therapist closest to Chicago, following that up in many workshops since.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist (IL) with a PhD from the University of Chicago.

Chicago, have practiced bioenergetic analysis since 1970, and was certified by the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis in 1976.

I look forward to meeting you. Please call for more information. I can be reached at: 773.248.3021.
